Woodville Wins the Shield.

The first competition by primary school cadets for the challenge belt, shield and trophies presented by the Wanganui branch of the National Defence League was concluded on Saturday. Twenty-six teams competed, 14 from the North Island and 12 from the South Island. The conditions were: Ten counting shots with a sighting shot at 200 yards at a target 4ft. by 4it., a bull's eye lft. ; inner 24in., magpie 36iu., outer remainder of target. The possible score was 30. All cadets up to and including Standard VI. were eligible to fire for both trophies for the champion team shield and medals. Each team was constituted of eight cadets. The original score-sheets will come to Wanganui by post, but bare results were telegraphed on Saturday. The date selected for the competition, unfortunately was not convenient for a number of the schools, but there is every reason, to belie.ye that there will be a much larger entry next year. Although there arc still five results to come in," it is not very likely that any of the results will be affected, as the leading scores so far are very fine ones, and would take a lot of beating.
