MONEY-LENDING SOLICITORS.

JUDGE COOPER DISSATISFIED.

(Per United Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, December 6.

The Supreme Court was occupied with the case in which G. Ellis claimed from Olinhant and Battley (solicitors) the sum of <£18 9s Bd, balance of discount, and asked the Court to declare a letter ol indemnity void. In the course of the proceedings. Judge Cooper said: "The profession of moneylender is entirely incompatible with the profession of solicitor of this Court. Judges of the Appeal Court have struck solicitors off the list for being bookmakers. To my mind it is much more incompatible with the practice of a solicitor of this Court to be a moneylender, and representations, ought to be made in the proper quarter." The case is proceeding.
