CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
(P«r United Ptpbh \«*ooiatfo».> ASHBURTON, August 27. Several cases of alleged cruelty to horses were heard before Mr V. <x. Day, S.M., to-day. The police prosecuted in each case, W. H. Zouch, Christchurch, inEj^ectop Ij^r the Society for the Prevention of Cru<J||y to Animals, being the chief witness. ' Fines were inflicted in. every case,' save one, as follows: — Stephen Ryan £5, Henry Yestenskoe 40s, Alexander Knox ■ Preddeclice 20s, John McLauchlan 40s, with costs against each defendant The charge against John Johnston of working horses while suffering from sores, was dismissed, it having been shown by him that he had no knowledge of the condition of . the animals.
