Welcome Social to Rev. J. A. Luxford
Despite the unpropitious weather experienced last evening there was a very good attendance in the Trinity Wesleyan Schoolroom last evening on the occasion of a welcome social tendered by the members of the congregation to the Rev. J. A. Luxford and family. Mr F. Webb-Jones presided, and short addresses of welcome were extended to the new pastor by the chairman and Messra J. Ball, and J. Jones, who spoke respectively on behalf of the Sunday School, the church office bearers, and adherents, and the local preachers and T.Y.M.I. Mr Luxford feelingly acknowledged the kindly and hearty expressions of goodwill extended to hirilself-'and family, -arid pleaded for the sympathetic cooperation "and lafowiikftrf all? 'Wfttfth* secured he believed God's, blessing would rest on his labours. The Rev< E. D. Patchett, who has been appointed to the Aramoho circuit, was' also welcomed by the chairman, and likewise expressed his thanks for the kindly way in which he was received. During the evening songs were rendered by Misses E. Spurdle and M. and W. Jones, Messrs F. Denton, A. Hicks, and Prentice, Messrs Hooper sang a duet, and Mr G. R. Marriner contributed a recitation. Tasty refreshments were dispensed by the ladies of the congregation, and a. pleasurable evening concluded with the singing of the Doxology.
