FIRES
Outbreak in a Drapery Establishment, (Per United Press Association^. WELLINGTON, April 21. Shortly after 2 o'clock this afternoon a lire broke out in Warnock and Adkins' largo drapery establishment in Lambton Quay.
Some thirty girls, who were working upstairs, got considerably excited and frightened. They were all rescued by the brigade of the messenger staff of the Government Buildings.
The building was badly damaged by fire and water before the flames wore subdued, and the stock suffered severely from the deluge of water poured in by the City Fire Brigade. ; The building is owned by Hon.. Hamilton Gilmer, M.L.G., and Mr A. Maguire, who are insured in the Atlas Company for ,£1550. The contents are insured in all for J7200, distributed as follows: — Royal Exchange, i>1500; Liverpool, London, and Globe, .£1200; Norwich Union, Alliance, .£1250; North British, £500; Sun, ,£750; Royal, £1500; London and Lancashire, £250. One of the adjoining buildings, occupied by Reynolds Bros., is owned by Mr Allan, and the stock is insured in the Norwich office for £150. Both adjoining buildings suffered, and the contents suffered some damage by emoke and water.
