Press Association.— Telegraph. — Copyright. SYDNEY, April 22.
Speaking at the University welcome to the Antarctic explorers. Professor David 6tated that the South Polar regions were found to be particularly rich in radiolaria, and it was difficult to detect any difference between them and the radiolarian -ocks lying between Bathurst and Harden. One of the reasons that prompted him to join the expedition was a desire to work out a. theory in connection with thY coal beds of New South Wales., which were presumed to be of glacial age, and although the biologist and paelaeontoiogist. oT the expedition had not yet perfected his researches, in his judgment strong support had been adduced as to the correctness of the theory. There appeared to be distinct Telations between Antarctic life and the fossil forms of the coal measures.
Speaking further of the similarity, both of the plant and animal life/af Australia, to that of South America,/tlie professor said Antarctica was possibly a centre of migration for plants and animals, to both the Continents^ — Australia and South America — now so far apart.
