FIRST DAY. (Per United Preee Association). TRENTHAM, April 21. WELLINGTON, April 21. The weather in the early morning was threatening for the first day of the Wellington R.C. Meeting. The attendance was fair. As the meeting advanced light rain fell, accompanied by a strong wind. The course was somewhat heavy. The totalisator investments were .£11,538, as against £1 1,464 for the corresponding day last year. Bookmakers' fees were J362. Con-* eluding results: — Thompson Handicap. — Aborigine 1, Consolation 2, Sir Tristram 3. Time, lmin 43sec. Also started — All Red, Master Scult, Flitaway, Los Angelos, Czar Kolohol, Waipaku, Sunbonnet, Ballarat, Sandstream, Effort, Merrie Rose, Roosevelt, Aboriginal, Aberbrothock, and Perolina. Won all the * way by two and a half lengths. North Island Challenge Stakes.—Provocation 1, Bobrikoff 2, Elysian 3. Time, lmin 29sec. Also started — Taskmaster, Thistledown, Diabolo, and Maori King. Won easily by a length. Plunket Nursery. — Xylophone 1, Nautiform 2, Kilwinning 3. Time, lmin 3sec. Also started — Perle DOr, Boanerges, Glissade, Ambala, Aema, Royalty, Masterful, Lace Collar, Chauvelin, and Undecided. Led all the way and won by a head. Railway Handicap. — Mon Ami 1, Advantage 2, Wimmera 3. Time, lmin 16 l-ssec. Also started— Courier, Gipsy Belle, Diamond Star, Sir Antrim, and Rockferry. Won by iyro lengths. Courier fell 100 yards from home, but the rider (Deeley) was not seriously hurt. Tinakori Handicap. — Hilarity 1, Nyland 2, lillustrious 3. Time, lmin 7 3-ssec. Also started — Te Rn, Conqueror, Miscast, and Ukraine. Hilarian came away with a fine run in the straight, winning by a length.
