Nelson Harbour,

NELSON, April 21. Sailed (10 a.m.).— Rakaia, for Welling^ ton. She takes over 14,000 carcases of sheep and lambs, in addition to tallow, horns, and a sniall quantity orsundries. Immense crowds visited the pioneer ocean liner here and saw her off safely. At -a, farewell gathering on board yesterday, Captain Bone said the port was suitable, but required a little more dredging inside and out and better wharfage and storage room. He and Mr Galbraith, representing the New Zealand Steamship Company, said that all the best ports of the Dominion had control of the wharves under the local Harbour Board, and Nelson should not rest till similar conditions were secured here. The inadequacy of the railway trucks was mentioned, but otherwise nothing could have excelled the facilities and speed of loading and the assistance and co-operation by the local railway staff, especially the stationmaster.
