Mr Brodeur, Canadian Minister of Marine, speaking at Montreal, and referring to his own and Sir Frederick Bordcn's visit to England to consult the Admiralty, said, "We want no militarism, but our better stand as a nation brings on us new obligations. We have won the power to make treaties where we ourselves are concerned, and can now claim that we arc a- nation with a nation's responsibilities. Therefore we must begin to defend cur territory, equally on land and sea."
