Insurances.

United Press Association.)

TAIHAPE, March 2

No further buildings were destroyed, but several premises on the opposite side were scorched and the windows broken. The stocks were slightly damaged by water, but all were small amounts. But for the absolutely calm night the whole town might have been destroyed. A large quantity of goods was salvaged, but the loss over the insurances is very heavy. There was never any danger to the buildings on the opposite side of the street. The total damage is estimated at about £25,000. The corrected insurances are: —

Whaler Bros., £250 in the Australian Alliance; McPherson, £250 in the Sun; Nichol, £300 in the British, Garner, £200 in the Commercial Union ; Whitcombe, £150 in the Commercial Union; Finch, £100 in the Sun, and personal effects £50 in the New Zealand ; Hodgson, £300 in the Norwich Union ; Aldridge, £50 in the Sun ; Jones, £250 in the Sun; Miss Fraser's tea rooms, £40 in the New Zealand; Wang You, £200 in the Sun; Ellis and Darvill, unknown, probably Alliance and Quceusland, but the stock was valued at £10,000 ; Labour Department, uninsured, as far as can be ascertained; W. R. Emerson (solicitor), £50 in the New Zealand.

Insurances on the buildings are: — Ellis and Darvill, in the Alliance for £860; Mrs J. D. Barsby (on Whaler's, Nichol's, and McPherson's), £450 in the Sun; on Wang You's, £100; W. P.
