Unaware that the date of the Wanganui Trotting Club's inaugural meeting had been altered from the 22nd October until the 12th December, Mr. Doyle, a Well-known owner of trotters, arrived from Leeston (Canterbury) the other day with four horses which he brought up with the intention of starting at the meeting. The horses include two unregistered maidens and two registered trotters, one with a performance. They will be submitted to auction h/ Messrs. Nixon and Co., next Wednesday, and local trotting enthusiasts will thus have an opportunity of purchasing some wellbred horses, which promise to distinguish themselves on the tracks.

The chairman and members of the Uarbour Board went down to the Heads in the Mascotte yesterday afternoon on their usual monthly visit of inspection. Soundings taken, both going and coming, indicated very clearly that the internal wall is causing the current to push the t: m d bank well over towards the Castlecliff beach, and the resident engineer pointed out the unmißtakeable set of the currant,

now well in towards the Castlecliff wharf . I He doesy-not anticipate any future trouble P~in that locality from shoaling. He thinks it probable that the present internal .vall will soon maintain deep water at the Heads wharf; in any case an extension of the wall would make an absolute certainty'of it. The locomotive crane, tramways, .and gearing are now practically ready "for commencing the extension to the north mole, and it is hoped the first load of stone for this work will come uown river next week.
