Atmospheric Gas.
Sir, — As a large gas consumer, I think the time has arrived when the. Gas Committee should make some effort to protect the public from being further imposed upon by inferior gas. It's only those who use it for engines or cookers who fully realise how bad it is. I venture to say that for power it costs quite 20 per cent, more for the same work as it did three years ago. We may be referred to the candle power, but in these days of incandescent burners it is not possible to define the quality, but I ask the 0 owners of cookers and gas engines what they think of it. In my opinion, the Borough Council 'should set up an impartial enquiry, undertaking tli.it those employees who gave evidence shall not suffer at the hands of the boss. The scope of 'the enquiry should be the number of feet per ton of coal, the candle power, and the percentage of atmosphere forced into the gas. That might restore confidence, and I would further siiggest that Tailing this, the consumers should lake possession nf that part of their own property, viz., the air pump, and coneigr. it to the scrap heap. — I am, etc., CONSUMER.
