Phillips. OUTSTANDING SUBSCRIPTIONS.— Considerable discussion took place on the laxity displayed by many of the members who have 'so far failed to forward their subscriptions for the past ' year. These members (of whom there were some 60), 'it was pointed out, had all received the privileges of their member's tickets, and had in most cases received some six notices asking them to settle their accounts. Some of the commitleemen expressed themselves, very strongly against what members termed a dishonourable transaction, and urged that fullest steps should be taken to collect the subs. Other committeemen, while recognising that the amounts ought to be naid, did hot think the taking of drastic 6teps would tend to popularise the Society. In reply to this opinion it was considered by some that the Sooiotv would be better without such members, as the position would 2 look better.— ll w:-.s. eventually decided that the matter ") collecting the subs, be referred to th<- i'iuince Committee, with power to -t:i!:e whatever .steps were nece&snrv. INCREASING THFI MEMBERSHIP.— Mr Bamber urgfofl on the committee the; necessity of iiicreiiiiusc the membership. There were numbers of people in Wanganui and district who were not, , but ought to be members, most of whom would only require to be asked to ioin and would do so. Those who would, not become' members should be asked to give their reasons, as the Association was a public institution, and should be better sip-morted by the public. He suggested that members should hand in lists of persons who were not members; that these should be submitted, to the executive, and the district divirled into wards' which committeemen should be detailed to canvas, or the secretary be asked to do 'so. 1 • — Mr Hardy handed in a long list'ofnames he had jotted down.— Members generally favoured the idea, and a motion wag' carried on the lines suggested by Mr Baraber.

NEXT MEETING.— It was decided that the next meeting he <m Weduesday, the It4h inst., at 7.30 p.m. '
