An Appeal.

TO TMt SDITOB

Sir, — I confidently appeal to the generosity of the public on behalf of the widow and children of the late John Cavanagh. A few years back John Cavanagh was well known in athletic circles on this coast, and the various young men's clubs in the towu have promised to assist at a benefit concert to be held shortly, for which his Worship the Mayor has authorised me to reserve him twenty scats. Mrs Cavanagh is a hard-working woman, who thoroughly deserves the practical sympathy of the citizens. She has been kit with several young children to bring up, and naturally, after the long and trying illness of her husband, extending over 12 months or more, she is left in very straitened circumstances. I shall therefore be pleased to receive and acknowledge any contributions whicli may be sent me, or, as I am on the sub-committee of the Chamber of Commerce for canvassing the town with their Wanganui booklet, I will be pleased to collect contributions. — I am, etc., G. H. POWNALL.
