Unnecessary Officialdom
(Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., September 30. The adverse operation of clauses in the butchers' award was shown in the case of a recent arrival from England. A youth 19 years of age arrived in Palmerston a few days ago destitute, but an appeal to the Salvation Army authorities resulted in work being founa for him at a butcher's shop at 20s per week, the employer also promising a much-needed outfit- The lad, however, barely commenced work before the Inspector of Factories enforced the Arbitration Court, award, which stipulated' for a, wage of 3Qe, and the lad, who is an iron. worker by trade, was thrown on his own resources again, the employer being unable to afford the payment of 30& per week to a green hand.
