Re Beautification Society: That ■ authority be given to employ a man for the Society's requirements. — The Mayor 'said the cab stand would be lengthened to .reach Wicksteed Place, it being thought 1-Jj^tter to do- that than, have another stand: opposite the Post Office, w'lich would block the tranic to the railway «taiion.— "The report was adopted. — Following was a further report of the Works Committee, dated 28th September:— The . Stewart forwarded copies of general description, and list of trees, to accompany the prize design for the laying out of Virginia Paric, to replace the original papera which ,'iad been lost. He also pointed out that the present weather was fa-vourable--;for planting, and if this were done, and the footpaths made, the reserve coald be utilised. — It was resolved to thank Mr Stewart " for the trouble he had. gone to. COJEFLAINT.— Mr< Waj ter Fossey, of Feilomng, wrote complaining that hisoverroaft had been torn beyond repair by the Ad* bed *wire fence bordering the Museum grounds. He asked for some cmpensation.—^Eceolved that the Council cannot see ite way to pay compensation. MEBET-GO-EoUND.— Messrs McXenrie~^«nd r/dwdrds wrote applying for a sretanu for a merry-go-round, for a fort- / night about Becember 15th, on the reBepve in front of tne Drill Hall.—Referred- to the- Seserves Committee with power to act. ' JACKSON STEEET.— The secretary of the' racecotfrse trustees wrote stating that the trustees would be pleased to move the fence at present erected on Jackson St., if the Council would have the proper - boundary defined.— Eeferred to the Works Committee. • CLOCK— Mr J. T. Hogan, M.P. -wrote stating that he was making an effort to get the old post office clock for .the new Aramoho post office. The Pos-tal-Department, he felt certain, would give ite half- share of the clock to A-a-moho if the Council would do the same, and he asked the viewß of the Council on tne matter so that he conld have something definite to lay before the De- . partment.-r-Besolved to offer the Council* half share of the clock at the valuation, . price. MUSEUM.— The Curator of the Museum, wrote drawing attention to the di- - lapidated state of the grounds in front of the budding, and asked that sotne- . thing- be done to put them, in order. The Museum funds were too small to allow of the ( trustees doing Anything, but he pointed out fbat large numbers of people frequentea that part of the town,, and .the improvements asked for would benefit bath them and the town itself. — Besolved to grant the trustees the Council's prison fibeur for two days. COOK'S GABDENS— The Christ Clinrch Amateur Athletic Club applied for the use of Cook's Gardens for a sports meeting on Boxing Day.— Eeferred to the Eeserves Committee. DAMAGE.— Messrs Burnett and Gordon, solicitors, wrote stating that Mr E. Baddeley had instructed them to claim on fhe College^ trustees for destruction Of his fence, and for consequent trespass of animals on his land leased from them in Hati-ick Street Extension. The trustees had replied stating that the " Council wAfl responsible, and the solicitors askeu. that the nirftter be laid Before thY Council. GAS.— Tko Eastbrook Borough 1 Council wrote stating that its gas committee bad decided to accept the Council's 1 erms for the supply of gas.— The matter was referred to the Gas Committee, and it was also resolved that the Finance Committee take the necessary steps to raise a loan for the extension of the service.
