POLITICAL NOTES.
TARANAKI ROADS AND RAILWAYS.
(From Our Parliamentary Special. — By Telegraph!. WELLINGTON, September' 28. In IJie course of the debate on the Public Works Statement this evening, Mr Jennings said he represented three land districts in the back blocks, but he had only received one telegram since the publication of the Estimates asking for additional votes.
Mr Stallworthy — "You are a lucky man." Mr Jennings later said he had received thirty telegrams declaring that if the Gov. eminent did not sarry out ite promise of 10 years ago to construct the StratfordOngarue Railway, it would be guilty of a gross broach of faith. If there was going to be any change of policy in regard to the line, it should only be done with an adequate reason, because settlers had gone out into the back blocks, settled the lands, and erected dairy factories and sawmills, believing the line was .coming to them some time.
