An ugly incident occurred at Caea Blanca, where recently 200 soldiers of the Foreign Legion deserted. Gendarmes saw five whom they recognised as deserters. They were brought, to the seashore by the Secretary of the German Consulate and Moorish horsemen in the employ of the Consul. When about to enter the boat to embark, in a Hamburg steamer, gendarmes arrested them, when a horseman interfered. He was" arrested, but later wae liberated". " German accounts state that the French Harbour Captain pointed a revolver at the Secretary and fiercely assaulted the horseman. I
