COURSING.

FORMATION OF A CLUB IN WANGANUI.

The meeting- of coursing enthusiasts called for last evening at Hodson's Rooms v was fairly well attended. Mr A. H. Rogers was voted to the chair, and as convenor of the , meeting, explained that he had asked those interested in the sport of coursing to meet and discuss the question as to the advisability of . forming a club ia Wanganui. He stated that about 40 had promised to become members of a club if one were formed, but many of these were unable to attend last night. He felt confident that a very strong club could be formed and that some very successful meetings could be held. A genefal discussion then ensued as to the most suitable grounds procurable for a coursing meeting, tlie cost of getting things in order, the membership fee, etc. It was thought that there would not be much trouble in getting a suitable ground and that the initial cost of preparing same would not be very great. Finally Mr R. J. Smythe moved, and Mr. W. E. Power seconded, that a club be formed to be called the Wanganui Coursing Club. — Carried.

Mr Smythe then proposed that the membership fee be fixed at one guinea per annum. — Seconded by Mr Power and carried.

Mr. A. H. Rogers was appointed secretary, pro tern. /

It was resolved that the following be a sub-committee to canvas for members, consider the question of rules, and arrange details, and to report at a subsequent meeting: — Messrs A. H. Rogers, A. McFarlane, W. B. Power, and W. Young. — T7ie Rcmmittee subsequently decided to meet en Monday evening next at Roger's Hotel.

The following handed in their names as willing to become members of the club: Messrs W. E. Power, D. J. Esau, A. McFarlane, H. Davis, C. Jefferson, J. D. Graham, W. Young, Maxwell Edgar, W. R. Tuck, R. Bond, C. E. Mackay, T. Marshall, and A. H. Rogers. Messrs. Power and Rogers both stated that they were confident they could secure a number of members.

A conversational discussion took place as to where to procure the hares from, and the probable cost of same. It was agreed that no fewer than 50 would be required for the opening meeting. Theview was expressed that probably the required number could be secured in this district, but if not that they could be got from the South Island at a moderate cost.

It was agreed that the club should go in for i proper Plumpton course, and that every precaution should be taken to guard, against anything in the shape of cruelty. After some further discussion the meeting adjourned, with a vote of thanks to .ac chair.
