ENGLISH DERBY BETTING
The tumours so consistently prevalent recently isays an English writer) that all was not well with Prospector have found confirmation. It seems that as a result of his illness last year Mr Browning's brilliant colt has become a bad roarer. In .these circumstances Prospector has been knocked out in the betting. Sir Archibald becomes prime favourite in his place, but the odds ottered against Mr. Bassett's colt are not tempting. This season's Derby is the most open race we have had for many years, and to back Sir Archibald at the odds offered would be little short of, madness. Personally I prefer Mountain Apple at the odds, and even then the balance would be on the side of the layer. The best policy is to leave the Derby alone for some time yet. Mayhap a tew others will fall out as Prospector has done.
