Vessel Supposed to be on Fire.
(Per United Prefcß AssneiationV NELSON. April 8. A large vcsssl, apparently somewhat disirasted aud \vitl« smoke issuing was seen to puss towards Mackay's Bluft this morning. Later 'Jie smoke appeared to cease. It is supposed to be the same vessel which was reported on fire at Toiiga Island (not' Takaka) yesterday. Mr Price, ug^nt for the Union Company, has instructed the captain of the Ai-alnira to communicate with her if possible aud wire from Cable Bay if assistance is needed and hopes to know more later. The behaviour of the vessel is mysterious if she is not on fire, but she is too far oU for particulars.
The Mystery Cleared Up
NELSON, Ajril 8. The mystery of the vessel supposed to be on fire has been/cleared up. Inquiries made by tlie cay tain of the Araluira show that the supposed vessel in distress wrs the trawler Nora Nivon, which was cruising up and down the bay with a large trysail set. The smoke from her fires, 6een through the sea haze, caused the sr-eciilation.
