WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL

Th" ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held to-day. Present— Crs. D. Mason (chair), J. R. Sommerville, A. Cairn*. R. Lilburn, W. Bamber, W. Neileon. Apologies for absence were received froir- Crs. Wilson and Fletcher.

MINUTES— The minutes of the last ordinary and two special meetings were read and confirmed.

RESIGNATION.— Mr C. J. Wray wroU iesigning hi 3 position as a Councillor owing to pressure of business. — Accepted. COUNTY BOUNDARY.— The Clerk of the Rningitikei County Council wrote forwarding a plan of the suggested boundary between the Rangitikei and Wanganui Council districts. — The Chairman mentioned that a meeting of the ratepayers interested was to oe held to-morrow, and it was resolved to hold the matter over in the meantime.

CONTRIBUTIONS.— The secretary or the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote intimating that the Council's contribution to the Hospital Board for the Hcepital was assessed at .£286 16s 6d, and for charitable aid at -£118 2s. DRPAHTMFiNT OF ROADS.— The Department of Roads wrote announcing thai a road at Te Wkaka (Lewis's) had been gazetted. AMBULANCE.— Cr. Sommerville reported that lie had attended the conference re procuring an ambulance, and that matters had reached the stage that an ambulance had been ordered at a cost of .£9O, the Wanganui Council's portion of which would amount to ,£lB. ROAD. — Mrs L. E. Prujean wrote asking that something should be done to improve the condition of the road through Glasgow's. — Letter referred to the Purua Road Board. HALF-HOLIDAY.— The Clerk stated that he had received an extract from the Gazette notifying that Thursday had been decl&rpd the weekly half-holiday for the Wangranui County. BRIDGE REPAIRS.— On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr. Bamber, it was resolved to notify the Borough Council that the Wanganui County Council recognised that the sinking of the cylinders came under the heading of repairs.

Our Upokongaro readers and others in-f-prested will be pleased to learn that t3ierc is every prospect of the Upokongaro Ferry service being ro- opened very shortly. As a result of representations made to the Wanganui County Council to-day by the deputation appointed at Thursday nigrht's meeting at Upokongaro it was decided to allow the Mangawhero Eoad Board to take over the ferry management if they feel so disposed. The Board will meet to-morrow, and it is more than likely that the members will accept control of the service, and re-open same immediately.
