The Japs are well-known to be one of tho most artistic nations, but few people realise, that the choicest of their works of art are never seen outside Japan and even then only by a favoured few. Their very best specimens — works upon which men spend years of labour, aye, and work their very souls into them, are valued at thousands of pounds. Our Mr McGruer, while travelling in Japan, had the good fortune to stumble across a Jap artist who had a splendid collection of water colour studies. He was persuaded to part with a lot of his sketches and they are veritable works of art, being taken from nature, and depict Japanese life and scenery as it really is. We are now showing these gems of Japanese art privately to our cliente, and what is more to the point, are selling them at Japanese prices, viz., 4s 6d to 10s 6d for a genuine water colour. — McGruer and Co.
