GAS COMPANY'S MEETINGS.
Wellington Qas Company's Successful Year.
Mr. W Ferguson Appointed General Manager.

WELLINGTON, February 3. The annual meeting of the Wellington Gas Company was held to-day. The usual dividend of 10 per cent, was agreed to, £10,000 was placed to the works extension reserve, and £11,798 carried forward.
The chairman stated that the net profits exceeded those of the previous year by £7609 and the average increase during the past five years was over 10 per cent, over the previous year: The quantity of gas at last year was 13.24 per cent, over the previous year. The company had purchased 14 acres of land at Miramar for .£8922, to extend its business, and new works would be erected there during the next three years. Mr W. Ferguson, secretary and engineer to the Harbour Board, had been engaged by the company as gene- i ral manager at a salary of £1500 a year for five years, without the right of pri- > vate practice, except that he was permitted to act as consulting engineer to the Harbour Board. The conjpany, in view of heavy expenditure before it, did not propose to reduce the price of gas below - the present rate — 5s 5d per 1000 feet. Messrs D. Anderson, J. Barry.,, and H.
