Mr Alf. Bayly

We sincerely regret having to record the death of Mr Alfred Bayly, which occurred at his residence, St. John's Hill, on Saturday, at the age of 41 years. The deceased was very well known in football circles, in fact he was one of the best three-quarters the Dominion has produced. He represented Taranaki for many years, and also frequently found his way into the New Zealand team, captaining- the combination which was so successful m Australia in the yflar 1897. The deceased was looked upon as one ofuhe be,st judges of the game In Australia, and was until his health .broke down, one of the selectors ior the North Island and New Zealand. The high opinion in which, he was held by footballers was evidenced by the fact that Tie was un* animously elected to the position t>f President of the N.Z. Union at the annual meeting- held ra*t September. The deceased, who had been seriously ill for several months, took up his residence in Wanganui some few months' ago. Sincere regret *ill be felt at the untimely death ot one who was so well and favourably known. The secretary of the Wanganui Rugby Union (Mr. W. Hall), has received telegrams from the Auckland, Wellington., and New Zea r land Unions 1 requesting him to arrangt to" have wreaths placed on the grave of the deceased. The Wanganui Union also intends sending a wreath to Strait ford, where the funeral will take placQ.
