Ca] tuiu Richards, ot the Northern Coy.'« steamer Muritai, trading between Ouehunga and Wanganui, was granted a renewnl of a packet license. Packet licences were aJso renewed on A. Hairi'jk and Co.'s up-river steamers Waijnaii', AVairere, Waior*, and Wakapi. The applications for similar licenses ior tl-e Ohura, Waione, and Wairua, were, on the application of the owners adjourned sine die.
The police report was rery satibfactory, only t«o liotcl.s having any adverse com-nu-.its passed upon them. The report of tliL" Government Sanitary Inspector was also satisfactory, containing a few recommendations lor minor sanitary improvements.. With rc.-vpect tcj' the latter, Mr Cohen, on behalf of the Licensed Victuallcis' A/soeiation, complained thot the licensees had not been forwarded copies of the icpoit, and were thus unable to remedy the defects before the meeting, lie thought that copies of tho report should be forwarded to the xiceus^ea in time to give effect to the recommendations contain'<i in them befor« the annual licensing meeting. It was time enough at the next quarterly meeting, after the licensees had been giren an opportunity to make alterations, and had disregarded the tame, ior the chairmaa to comment upon the matter. The chairman agreed with Mr Cohen that it was improper that the sanitary report should be delayed tili a couple of day* before the meeting. It was only received on Saturday la«t. He concurred that it should bo at the «ervico of the litensee* at least fourteen days before the annual meeting, to a3 to give Wi«m time (o take remedial measures where necessary. He would soe that the licensees wore torwurdel reports.
