Take their Oath.
An Historic Occasion.

Tb n lion. Dr Findlay. Mr Chapman. 3ir H. D. Bell, who have been appointed King's Counsel, took the formal oath at tho Supreme Court to-day. Justice Cooper ip a few remarks said that the Bar in New Zealand had ben distinguished for a great number ot j'cars for learning, abilty, and a high sense of honour, which »M on« of the traditions of the English Bar. The occasion was one to be fairly tormed "historic." The gentlemen who had just taken the oath were three of the most distinguished leaders of the profession, aud he repotted that Mr C. P. Skerrett. who was also held in the highest respect, was not pres?nt to take hi* oath. He believed, that throughout the colony the appointment* would be received with satisfaction by members of the Bar. by solicitors, and by the general public. This occasion, which brought the New Zealand Bar on a level with the English Bar, marked the attainment of a status for which this country had been waiting for many yea; a. °
