IRISH RIFLES' SOCIAL.

Th« Iri.h Rifle* held their social **i dance in the Fire Brigade Hall on Friday laet, when there were about «ixty coup 1m present. The hall was decorated by th« committee, Sergt. Xichollt (sec. and troas.), Col'.-Sergt. Provost, Sergt. Ham niond, Corpls. Powell, Davis. Quirk, Pvtei. Molan, Murray, Hart, Chai:c'ler, Ford, Power and Johnson. The musicians, Messrs G. Copley (piano) and J. Copley (euphonium) deserve very great praise for the fine music which they .supplied, whila the M.C.'s (Corpls. Powell and Davis) carried out their duties in a first-class manner. The sit-down supper, which was provided by Mr T. Hodson, wae of a very high order, and he was ably assisted by the ladies of the company, including Mesdames Molan and Vincent. Several officers and men were present from various other corps. Several songs were given during the evening. The whole affair was a great succees, and its friends are looking forward to spending another such evening with this popular corps. The time is approachinlg for the pupil* of the Queen's Park School to give their annual concert, which an advertisement in •ur columns announces for the 21st inst. Those who patronised the effort of last year will remember the excellent programme provided ; and teachers and pupils are now hard at work preparing items quite new to Wanganui audiences. We venture to predict another bumper house, and would advise our readers to purchase tickets early and to book their seat* a« soon a« the box plan opens.
