Mr Chambeilaiu, in a letter to the organ is.-rs ot a dinner to Sir Robert lioud, Piemier ot Newfoundland, said, "I truct the difficulties* in connection with the iisheri' s cjiwstion will be salir>tactorily arl'uiirrcd, und tliut thin will be a prelude to union with the <yn>at Dominion of the West, which 1 believe will ultimately be found uiofit conducive to the permanent weltare of Newfoundland." Sir R. Bond remarked that the union of Newfoundland and Canada was at present neither desirable nor within the region of practical politics. Had the precis of the Imperial Conference been more adequate, what had occurred thereat in relation to Newfoundland would not have been misrepi evented in the Prcs. He regretted that the nine JJook had withheld the discus-.ion following- his statement by d«sciil»in<if it as :\ private one.
