Re Public Abattoir.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — As the election of councillors for the borough is close at hand, it would perhaps be as well if the candidates let the ratepayers know their individual views, on this matter. It appears to me to be contrary to all reason that one butcher should have the sole right to slaughter for those in opposition to him. The Freezing Co. are now ordinary butchers, running in competition with the other local butchers, and it is absolutely necessary in the interest of fair trade that all meat supplied in the town be killed at a legally constituted city abattoir. Further than this, it is not fair that the Freezing Co. should be in such a position as to know from the slaughtering now many bodies or carcases each butcher in town gets through per week. — I am, 1 etc., - NO MONOPOLY.
