LEFT SIDE PARALYSED.

Geo. B. Battersby

Struck Down on the Roadside

Crippled and Bedridden Hale and Active at 80 Years Dr Williams' Pink Pills.

"There are three of us under this one roof that swear by Dr. Williams' Pink Pills," said Mr George Battersby, 77 Park Road, Maryborough. "They did a world of good for Mrs iiattersby, and my son Charlie will tell you how they saved his wife when she was wao^ng away before our eyes. But I have more reason than any of them to thank Dr. Wililaine' Pink Pills. I'd have been a cripple for life but lor them. I had a stroke, and it left me paralysed hand and foot. All my left 6ide was dead. 1 never thought to walk another step. In spite of everything, Dr. Williams' Pink Pills not me on my feet again a» active as any man of my years within fifty miles of Maryborough. '"It happened when we were building this very house," said Mr Battersby. "We were living then on the farm at Kooreh, about 11 milts thic, aide ot St. Arnaud. 1 was carting timber with my son Herbert from Burke 'a Flat in here to Maryborough. Herbert was driving the team, and 1 was walking along the road behind the waggon. As swift as lightning, I felt a sharp pain in my left foot. My head started to swim, and I gave one groan as the pain shot up my leg. I would have fallen headlong to the ground, but Herbert rushed up and caught me just as I was goiug down. I'll never forget the agony all down my left side from head to foot. It was like a thousand needles running into me. My arm was useless, and my leg was all twisted out of shape. Herbert tried to pull my foot round straight, but it turned in again as soon as he let go. Little by little, I felt myself going off into a swoon. I could not make out what had come over me. A few minutes before I had been a active hearty man — and now I was crippled hand and foot. All the left side of me was dead. Herbert carried me to a bank of grass by the roadside, and there I lay while he galloped off for help. It was close on two miles to the nearest house— but he borrowed a buggy there, and then hurried back for me. He lifted me into the trap and drove me home to Kooreh." "I never got such a shock in my life as when Herbert drove up in the buggy with his father," said Mrs Battersby. "You should have seen his face. It was almost purple, and he was breathing so heavy that I thought every gasp would be his last. One side of his mouth was screwed into a horrible shape. As soon as we went to lift him out of the buggy I tav that all one side was paralysed. His arm hung limp and his leg was twisted out of place. While Herbert was pntting him to bed I got a kettle on the fire, and aoon had a big basin of cayenne pepper and boiling water. We put that on his leg and side to try and bring back the life — but it was no use."

"To tell the truth, I never felt the boiling hot cloths," added Mr Battersby. "There was not a bit of feeling all down that side. It was absolutely dead, I was nothing but a helpless cripple. My mouth was drawn back to my ear, and I could hardly speak. When I tried to eat, I could not keep the food in my mouth. For a long time I could not oven feed myself. My meat had to be cut up for me, aiid they fed me with a spoon. A film came over my left eye, and I could only see out of half of ifc. My poor wife was nearly distracted. She 'rubbed eucalyptus oil into my dead side till she almost fainted from exhaustion. I never thought to walk or work again. I just lay there in bed, week after week, a helpless paralytic 1 . "Just to show you how helpless I was, I had to be held up while my bed was made — and then they laid me back again carefully. The muscles of my leg and arm were as stiff as iron. The skin over my paralysed side was drawn as tight as a kettle-drum. Every day it seemed to get tighter and tighter, till my flesh and bones were squeezed together. It was like having my whole side in a vice. At times the pain was more than I could bear. My left foot had the toe turned right in and my left arm was bent like a V. My wrist was doubled up so that my fingers nearly touched my forearm. Often they tried to draw my foot back to its proper place — and I stooT the pain of it till the tears rolled down my cheeks. It was like tearing every sinew out of the flesh. But it was no use — for, as soon as they let go, roy foot went back to its old place. Weeks w^nt by, and I never got any better. At my very beat, I could just get about with a stick, in and out of the room, as far as the sofa. Even with the stick, I could not stand up straight. I was all twisted over towards my right side, and my left foot dragged on th© ground every step I took. You never saw a more helpless cripple. Then I noticed the power going ou? r TrTmy right arm aa well. It got to be utterly useless — almost as bad as the other one.

•' My case was the talk of the people for miles around, for everyone there knew what an active man I had been all my life," added Mr Battersby. " One day a young woman from St. Arnaud came out to see my wife, and told her about a case of paralysis that Dr. Williams' Pink Pills had cured. She knew the man hersedf. He had bcon ao crippled that he couldn't walk. So Mrs. Battersby sent into town for half-a-dozen boxes of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, and we started to give them a good trial. The very first box made me cut and sleep better than I had done for months. When I was on the third box my mouth began to go back to its right place. Before long I could feel the muscles in my paralysed side getting supple and loose. The blood began to tingle in my dead leg, and in a few weeks I could bend my kn c just how I liked. My foot got straight again, and I soon got back the us* of my left arm. People could hardly believe that Dr. Williams' Pink Pills were curing me the way they were. At last I threw my stick away, and was able to get about the farm for myself. From that day to this I have had the best health 'a man could ask for. I can -work all day here in my little forge, and I don't know a man of my years that has such health and strength. But I don't boast about it, for I know that I owe it all to Dr. Williams' Pink Pills. They saved me from being a cripple for life."
