Licenses to be Issued for Winter Rafting. (From- Our Parliamentary Special.) - (By iUogiairh.) W ISLINGTON, October 20. The efforts of !dr. Jennings^ Mr. Hogan and aaieral country members to enable the Wanganni River to be Übpcl fcr i'lmber*raftinjf havo met with success. Mr. Jennings haa been informed by the Minister for Lands that the CRbinet, haying carefully considered the matter, has decided that applicants for timbcr-ralting licenses should approach the Wellington Land B6ard| in accordance with the Act, with a'requcat that l*le Governor .be recommended to gazette the Wanignaui River as a river Under the Timber I'loatmg Act, 1884. If sucu a recommendation in made, then licenses can be- issued, subject to a written guarantee for the protection of life and property. Very stringent regulations in regard to th© time and -xmditions of rafting are to be made, and timber owners are quite in accord with these proposals. While tho river is not in future to be monopolised by the tourist traffic, this will not be interfered with iv the summer.
