Since last season they have sold nearly a thousand pounds' worth of stud Roinney ram lambs. Last week they sold one of their young bulls jto a Mastertou farmer for 40 guineas. The lambing average this seaeon on the McKenzic-Lovelock farm, "Cliflside," Fitzherbert East,' is 113 per cent. Mr Riddell, S.M., this morning heard the charge agahibt Frederick William Jones of forging the name of Jane Jones to a cheque for £'.i 10s, drawn on the Bank of Now Zealand. The circumstances of the case, as elicited from the evidence of A. H. Rogers and T. H. Nixon, proprietor and licensee respectively of the Albion Hotel, and Detective Siddells, were that on the 10th inst. accused asked Rogers for a blank cheque, which was supplied, and later on he asked Nixon for a blank cheque. During the day he tendered Rogers a cheque for £3 10s, drawn by Jane Jones on the Bank of New Zealand. The cheque was accepted by Rogers, who returned accused £2 6s 6d, keeping the remainder for board. The cheque, he said, was from his mother, and he would use it because it would be better known than one of his own. Accused put his endorsement on the cheque, and it was duly taken to the Bank, but was endorsed by the latter with "no account." Detective Siddells was then made acquainted with the matter, and on arresting the accused, the latter said the writing was his, but he did not remember anything about it, and added that he had been taking opium lately. This morning accused stated to the detective that lie wrote his mother's name to the cheque, but had no authority to do so. The case was adjourned til! Wednesday next.
