NEW ZEALAND MEAT AT HOME.

Mb Henby Kidd, of AlbUry, has just returned from an extensive tour of the Home Lands, and to a representative of the Timaru Post gave some interesting' particulars regarding the way New Zealand meat is dealt with at Home. .In his travels abroad, Mr Kidd was accompanied by Mr Hugh Corbett, late of Cricklewood, but now of Timaru. After carefully inspecting and watching on the Home markets the products of other countrade in Glasgow, Mr Kidd says, is as folthat New Zealand can beat them all. The position of the New Zealand meat tade in Glasgow. Mr Kidd says, is as follows:—"The supplies of all go there through the London agency. There .is aways a short supply of Canterbury lamb, and dealers are obliged to fill in the gap with Australian stuff, which is sold as Canterbury. They don't get any -New Zealand sheep, but the London people send a few old ewes. If a direct shipment of 100,000 lambs went there in March, they could easily be sold. Glasgow has a good harbour, and cheaper rates than London; and their cold storage rates <jre only 10s per ton per month, while those in London are 20s 9a." This information Mr Kidd obtained from Mr William Milne, of the Glasgow Cold Storage and Ice Factory, and he says that both he and Mr Corbett can, fnlly endorse what Mr Milne says. Mr Kidd went on to give an instance of how buyers at Home are duped, and how, in the process, New Zealand is made to suffer. He said: — "I wished to procure in Glasgow a niece of our Canterbury lamb, and, in company with my niece, I went into one of the shops and asked for some. The shopman put a lamb on this counter, the look of which aroused my suspicion that it was not Canterbury, and I asked to be shown the brand, whereupon he remarked mat he had made a mistake, as it was an Argentine carcase. I • told him he no doubt made those mistakes pretty often; then he put a lamb on the counter branded Canterbury. The Argentine he had offered me was about the size of a hare, and, had it been possible, he would have sold it to me as prime Canterbury, but, on being cornered he had to acknowledge that he had made ft mistake."
