The marriage of the Primate of New Zealand (Bi9hop Nevill) to Miss Lina Fynes Clinton, in England, last week, came as a surprise to the friends of tho contracting parties in Milton (says the Mirror). As a girl the bride lived in Milton for some years, her father being the Rev. Fynes Clinton, vicar of St. John's Church. She acted as companion to the late Mrs Nevill, who died twelve months ago. The Primate is over three score and ten, Mrs Nevill is not yet thirty years of age. Dr Clay has resigned the position of surgeon of the Otaki Hospital. Dr. Huthwaite, recently from England, has been appointed to the vacancy, but will not take up the duties until he has been registered in New Zealand. The Auckland Star reports that Lieutenant H. C. Banks, eldest son of Lieutenant* ColoDel J. H. Banks, for some years in command of the Auckland Volunteer district, has died in India.. A letter received in Christchurch on Tuesday night from Mr Chamberlain's secretary stated that Mr Chamberlain had been ill but that at the date of the letter (September 7th) he was much better.
