BOWLING.

THE N.Z. TEAM IN AUSTRALIA. Press Association.— Telegraph.— Copyright Received October 18, 10.19 p.m. SYDNEY, October 18. The New Zealanders suffered defeat in two four-rink matches against Petersham and Ashtield. At the former place the local team included three inter-State players, and was a very strong combination altogether. Sneddon's rink, which performed very weakly at Maitland, was the cause of the visitors' downfall at Petersham. The other three rinks were twelve up at the finish, but Sneddon finished 16 down. Bouskill brought his game along strongly, and, although Wheeler's rink had the worst of it in the first couple of hours, they played so excellently uphill that they finished level. Waddell'b rink played a good steady game. Scores: — Bastings, Court, Keast, and Sneddon 17, Petersham 34. Scott, McGibbon, Gillies, and Wheeler 25. Petersham 23. Askhuret, Lefevre, Dall, and Waddell 23, Petersham 18. Bee, Short, Hancock, and Waddell 23, Petersham 18. Totals: Petersham 95. New Zealand 90. The came at Ashfield was very closely contested. For the visitors Black and Reid played a great leading game. The local team was a good one. Scores : — Black, Osmond, Taylor, and Manning 24. Ashfield 20. Ledinerham, Mowlem, Marsden, and Ranking, Ashfield 29. Reid, Jackson, Smith, and Payne 26, Ashfield 27. Buchanan and Maclean 23. Ashfield 19. Totals: Ashfield 95, New Zealand 90. As a seven-rink team the visitors would be reasonably strong, but as an eightrink they have an element of weakness which may have its effect in the interstate match.
