WELLINGTON, September 17. The Department of Industries and Commcico has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, September 15: —

There has boon more inclination to pnrcliaso imttton during the past week. Stocks on hand aie heavy. The market is firm in anticipation ot smaller supplies arriving. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3^d, Noith Island 3fd. The lamb market is firm with a hardening tendency. Stock.s arc reduced. Light weight Canterbury lunib i& scarce at 4]Jd. Tjie average price of other than Canteibury brands is 48d. Stocks of New Zealand j.b^ef on hand ar? liebt, and thcra is a inuc^ j better demand. Hind quarters arc quoted at 3gd, fore quarters 2^d. Tlic butler market, is firm, with a. large demand for better grades. 2442 boxes of New Zealand- bettor arrived during August. Choice New Zealand makci are quoted at 115; Danish 1235; Canadian 114s per cwt. The- chc^i market is. quiet with a tendency in favour of Uiiycrs. A good dcr.l oi' cheese is now arriving, %\;hich is held in sLoro. Canadian makes are quoted at 610 per cwt. The hemp market is quiet with little busires? doing. A good feeling however prevails. Prices are unchanged since last week. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. Blight stjcd is soarco ; 17Ibs to the bushel, cloan-dicuscd lots, are woith 45s per evvt.
