NEW BUILDINGS,

The Wanganui Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Club, which was promoted only three years ago, has evidently done what was anticipated of it, viz., filled a much-felt want — a business man's clvb — and proved a success quite up to, if not beyond, its promoters' anticipations. With a president, committee, and membership composed entirely of business men, it is not surprising to learn that the Club hag decided to erect handsome and up-to-date premises. To this end we understand the Club has leased, with right of purchase, part of that fine site at the junction of Ridgway and St. Hill Streets, opposite the new Criterion Hotel, on which is now being erected a fine twostorey brick building, with a frontage to Ridgway Strept of 48 feet and a depth of 6(J feet. The style of architecture will be unique in Wanganui, going back as it does to the reign of Queen Anne. The ground floor of the building comprisca an entrance hall, 16ft by 16ft, with tiled floor; social hall and reading room, 31ft by 20ft ; writing rooms, private sitting rooms, secretary's office, sanitary arrangements of the most modern type, billiard room, 35ft by 27ft, designed for two billiard tbales, with ample side room for Gpectatore, with the very latest design for lighting, so as to give most suitable diffusion of light. On the upper storey will be placed the committee and other rooms,. Ample provision will be made for exoansion of membership. The building throughout will be plastered and picked out in suitable tints. The contract has been let to Messrs. Russell and Bigncll, and the work will bo carried out under the supervision of the Club's honorary supervisor, Mr. Meuli. The designer of the building was Mr. A. Atkins, F.R.1.8.A. The Club's Building Committee are: Messrs. J. H. Burnet, A. S. Burgcse, A. G. Bignell, H. Gibbons, D. Mcldrum, Lloyd Jones, N. Meuli, W. Rankin, with Messrs. Louis Cohen, hon. solicitor, F. C. Saphir, hon. treasurer, and A. Hatritk, president.
