THE BUTTER INDUSTRY.

The Eltham Box Oompany. Season's Prospects for Taranaki. (Per United Press Association). ELTHAM, September 17. la oonsequence of the growth of the dairy industry in South Taranaki, the Box Manufacturing Company, of Eltham, lave had tp reconstruct and considerably •enlarge their factory. Work was resumed in the new premises this morning. The alterations were made during the off season, and an entirely new installation of the best procurable and most up-to-date machinery was put in, and it is expected that this plant will enable the company to keep pace with the increasing require,mentß of the trade. The output last year for local buter and cheese factories was 1500 boxes per day. The new factory, which is the largest and best-equipped of its kind in the colony, can produce 2500 finished butter boxes and cheese cases per day. In connection with the new factory, * large brick building is being erected for storage of timber. This will enable the Eltham company to have thoroughly dry material always available. There are at present thirty-four butter and cheese companies in Taranaki, chiefly in the southern portion of the province, receiving their supplies of boxes from the Eltham factory, and it is estimated that about 260,000 boexs will be required by these companies this season. Already the Eltham Dairy Company, in the opening weeks of the season, , are manufacturing one ton and a half of butter per day and the prospects in other local factories are equally encouraging.
