OTAGO UNIVERSITY (3) -=. SYDNEY UNIVERSITY (0).

DUNEDIN, September 15. * A return football match, Sydney University v. Otago University was played to-day on the Caledonian' Ground. Rain fell in the morning, and the ground was heavy and greasy, as also was' 'the ball. A stiff sotrth-west breete was blowing, with 'at times a driving mist. Playing against the wind in the- first spell," the Sydney players more than held their own, the forwards playing a great game, paralysing the efforts of the local backs, who failed to score, and it was evident that if the Sydney men played as well in the second spell the game was theirs. But they faded away to nothing sometime after tho second spell was going, and after persistent attacks Gilray scored a clever try for Otago. Sydney rallied, and a penalty kick nearly eqnalised the scores, the ball striking the crossbar and falling underneath. Otago won by three to nil. The Sydney players to-day could scarcely be recognised as the team which Otago ran over last Saturday. If the backs had been stronger in attack they must have won.

The Wellington College Old Boye defeated the Christchurch High School Old Boys by 11 to 6 in a match played at Wellington on Saturday. On Saturday afternoon a match was played on the Bee. between the Eastown Workshops and the Merchants, the former winning by 10 points to 8, after a very interesting game. For Eastown Holmes and Tregear scored tries, Holland converting both. N. Pownall and Richardson scored for the losers, Mitchell one. Some good form was shown by both teams, Tregear especially being noticeable for hia fine playing, and making several tricky runs.

"Soap and Wool" prevailed over "Ferro Stout" in the game played on Saturday, when the employees of Messiy Oilberd and Sona and Messrs, Scott Bros. (Castlecliff) defeated the "Ferro Stout" team by 16 points to 3. The game, which was more even than the score would indicate, was a good one. The Wanganui District High School team journeyed to Feilding on Saturday, where they met the local HighScshool. The game, which was played on a wet, sloppy ground, resulted in an easy win for the Wanganui boys by 38 to O.t The visiting team was very hospitably entertained by the Feilding boys.
