EGMONT R.C. SUMMER MEETING. ANTICIPATIONS BY "ACHILLES."

The Summer Meeting of the Egmont Racing Club, which takes place to-morrow and Thursday, is being looked forward to with a deal of interest. The acceptances received for the various events to bo decided to-morrow are very satisfactory, and some excellent racing may safely be anticipated. The course is reported to be looking in capital condition, which is only what could be expected considering the amount of work bestowed thereon by Mr Alf. Morse; the club's capable custodian, who has spared no efforts to have everything in apple-pie order. The Summer Meeting of the Egmont Club is always a most popular one with race-goers, as apart from the good sport usually provided thereat, the racing there always throws considerable light on the prospects of a number of the horses engaged at the Wanganui Cup Meeting. In this connection it will be noted that seven out of the nine loft in the Cup race to-morrow arc also engaged in our Cup, the exceptions being Jewellery and Cyrano. Jewellery's name was omitted from the list sent through by the Press Association. In each of the events to be decided at Hawera, most of the contestants will aJso be competing here next month, so that backers are anxious to observe the form displayed. Quito a large number of Wanganui sports intend being present at the Egmont Meeting, which will, providing the weather remains fine, be one of the most successful of the many enjoyable gatherings held by this popular club. Those who contemplate making the trip on either day are reminded that a special train leaves Waneanui at 7.15 a.m. to-morrow and on Thursday.

The first event set down for decision is the Flying Handicap, of six furlongs, in which nine have paid np. Of this lot, Lndy Annie 8.7, Delamere 7.13, and St. Claimer 7.8 aro tho three I like best, though the better of Mr E. J. Watt's psiir — Starshoot 8.11 and Boomerang 8.4 — in ii tit l?c very dangcrons. Tho j«i<Jg<» ma.y place them

LADY ANNIE first, Delamere second.

Tho Moremore Hack Flat, of six furlongs, is next on the list, and in this no loss than 17 have accepted. The Clipper 8.8, Federation 8.8, Gleam 8.5, and Lualla 8.0 are those from whom I expect the winner to come, and if he has got over the effects of his fall at Foxton, I think FEDERATION or GLEAM will prevail. The Wharoroa Hurdles, 1J miles, will then engage the attention of backers. If the ten acceptors go to tho post the race should indeed be a fine one. Waiwera 11.9, Khama 10.12, St. Lyra and Weary 3 Jill 9.10, look the pick of the field, and perhaps ST. LYRA may win, with Khama and Weary Bill in the places. The Ohawe Hack Hurdles, 1J miles, should provide an interesting race, which may he won by LIONHEART, with Cassiopea next best. The big event — the Egmont Cup, of \\ miles— follows, and this gives every indication of being a splendidly contested race. Paritutu 8.13 occupies pride of place, and may be depended upon to run a fin* race. The Castor gelding won this event last year, and has an excellent chance of repeating that performance, though he has got all he is entitled to so far as weight is concerned. Nonette, 8.8, is nicely weighted, and if the going is suitable may be close up at the business end. Ropa, 8.1, must be accounted dangerousj while the same remark applies to tho uncertain Mclodeon, 7.11, who if in a generous mood may win. Bourrasque, 7.9, will have a number of friends consequent on the good impression he created at Foxton. Grenade, 7.8, would score a popular win if he got homo for Mr D. O'Brien, and he will probably run prominently. Jewellery, G. 13, is a well-brod mare, being by St. Leger — Necklace, but has not shown much form recently. Glenullin, 6.12. is a fine colt, and if he can stay out the distance will be very hard to beat. Cyrano, 6.7, has not done anything in public to warrant anyone expecting him to win. Altogether the race appears a very open one, and in naming

MELODEON as the probable winner I do so without any great amount of confidence. Glcnullin and Bourrasqne may fill the places.

The Welter, 7 furlongs, appears likely to be fought out between Kuroki and SI. Claiiner, and Waikato, and the winner may be ST. CLAIMER. In the Waipapa Hack Flat, one mile. Star Rose 8.13, Nova 8.0, and Merriwai 7.8 are a likely-looking trio. The one to prevail may be STAR ROSE. The Sires' Produce Stakes, one mile, should produce a good race between SYLVAN TIDE and Tangaroa, who may finish in that order.
