The N.Z. University Senate concluded it« session at Dunedin on Saturday.

The new railway deviation, via Hatrick Street, was used for the first time this morning.

Campers at Castlecliff had a trying time during yesterday's gale, several tents being blown down and rendered useless by the strong southerly.

The Mayor requests that all those who have lists in connection with the proposed presentation to Mrs Hoey to hand them in as soon as possible. Lady Plunkett is to be asked to make the presentation on the occasion of her visit on Thursday, the 15th instant.

Some yacht owners are complaining of petty thefts of gear from their boats, two cases of theft of rope, etc., having occurred in the last week. A reward of .£5 is offered in this issue for information leading to the conviction of the person who stole some gear from the yacht Clipper n.

Elections under the Maori Councils Act, 1900, for twelve Maoris to represent the Wanganui and Kurahaupo districts, will be held at the Runanga House, Putiki, and the Courthouse, Marten, on the Bth and 27th February respectively. Mr John Bates has been appointed Returning Officer for both districts.

In connection with Lady Plunkett's visit to Wanganui on Thursday, 15th inst., her ladyship will arrive by the mid-day train from the North. Should the weather be fine, the presentation of prizes won at the District High School and Hie Queen's Park School last year will take place in Moutoa Gardens about 2.30 o'clock. If the weather is unfavourable the function will be held in the Drill Hall.

Last Saturday's sailing race had to be postponed owing to the absence of wind. Five boats, viz.. Dottrell, Clipper 11.. Bonito, and Sandy Hook started, in the merest breath of air, which failed' completely before the first three got past the Cattle Wharf, the other two having made about a quarter of a mile more. The committee, seeing the impossibility of finishing the race within the time limit, thereupon recalled the boats. The race will probably be re-started on Saturday afternoon next.
