Lilbiirn, and H. Wilson. **■• MINUTES.— The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. k ACCOUNTS.— Accounts to the amount of ,£l6O 6s 6d were passed for payment. NEW ROAD. — A letter was received from the Chief Surveyor, forwarding tracing of a new road about to be formed through Mr Bell's property, MaungaIraretu, and asking- the Council's consent to th» formation Granted. RIVER BANK PROTECTION.— The Chairman reported that he and Crs Wray, Mason, and Fletcher had waited on the Premier and solicited assistance towards the protection of the river bank at Taylorville. He also reported having written the Borough Council respecting the Borough's liability, but that the Council had decided to do nothing till the return of the Mayor. NORTHERN BOUNDARY.— A letter was received from the clerk of the Rangitikei County Council, asking the Council to consider the settlers' request for the alteration of tho Northern County boundary. — Decided that th© Chairman and Crs Lilburn and Sommerville be a commitfee to meet the Rangitikei County Council in connection with the petition of the Bettlers. PLANS.— Resolved that the clerk telegraph the Chief Surveyor and ask him to forward the road plans of the ParatiekeMangamahu Road to the Chief Engineer of Roads. NEW POUND.— It was decided that estimates and specifications be prepared by Mr J. E. Wilson for a new pound at Taylorville. — Cr Bamber reported that'llie Purua Road Board would contribute, and his Board thought that the Mangawhero Board should also contribute. The Mataonga.on.g& Board also wrote stating that they would contribute to the co6t of tba pound. UPOKONGARO FERRY.— It was decided that Mr G. Watson be appointed to work the Upokongaro ferry service, and put the approaches in repair, to the satisfaction of Cr Caines, at a salary of 35s per week and the use of the Council's cottage. BY-LAWS. — On the motion of Cr MaBon, it was resolved that the Harbour Board bo asked to complete the by-laws at once, as drafted by Mr Fitzhbrbert, in connection with the Upokongaro ferry. LIBRARY SUBSIDY.— It was resolved to contribute a subsidy of i>lo to the Wanganni Public Library. DOG TAX COLLECTOR— Mr E. S.

Morgan was reappointed collector of, dog taxes and registrar of dogs within the Wanganui County. > COMPENSATION.— Mr A. Gray wrote asking for compensation for loss incurred through his boat being upset by the lower Upokongaro ferry wire, and the Council decided that while it sympathises with Mr Gray, it cannot accept any liability in connection with the accident. REFUND. — Resolved that the Puma Board be .refunded the amount wrongly ■ expended for the telephone. NOTICE OF MOTION. — The Chairman - gave notice to move ai the nexb mceUn^:

"That whereas several large bridges in different parts of the county are built and maintained by the county, while other large bridges are built by the ridings wherein they are ' situated, and that in order to comply with section 145 of the Counties Act, 1886, the Council will in future build all bridges over 30ft span throughout the county, and in order to provide funds for this purpose legal Btcps be taken to establish a bridge fund under the Local Bodies Loans and Public Works Acts." '
