NOTES.

The Society's were lucky in having perfect weather for the Show both days, the result being a very large attendance and good door money. The scene yesterday afternoon was a very animated one when the school children poured in in hundreds and flocked around the exhibits like bee 9.

The Society have done well to interest the children in flower culture, and the work shown yesterday was an eye-opener as to what children can do. In the school exhibits the Mosstown school's collections of flowers and vegetables were a distinct credit, whilst the sewing was excellent — far away the best in the room. Miss Ewing, the head teacher, and her pupils are certainly to be complimented on their success." The St. John's School, too, had some splendid exhibits, especially in the decorated class, and the Queen's Park School practically swept the board in writing. As a whole, the exhibits were mest pleasing, and all concerned are to be congratulated upon the result. The larpo3t amount of credit for the sticcess of the gardening and floral work is due to Mrs J. Sewell, who has spent no end of time and trouble in working up an interest in the competitions, and helping with practical suggestions. The class stewards for the children's classes (Mrs Holloway, Misse3 Bell and Minifie, and Messrs Gower, senr. and junr.) had a very trying time staging the large influx of exhibits, but this was successfully accomplished well up to time. The iudges were as follow: — First Day. — Mesdames Dempsey, Martin, Lockhardt. Messrs -Benefield, Goodson (Hawera), and D. Hutton. School competitions, Mrs H. Gibbons and Mr Hutton.

Great credit is due to th© officials for the way the Show was run, thanks mainly to the President (Mr A. A. Gower) and Mr G. Smith, who had everything quite up-to-date. In the potato classes it was Mr Sherman (not Skerman) who was so successful. In addition to those already mentioned he took second for the best six round.

The thanks of the Society are due to Messrs W. Dustin and W. Hogg for gifts of handsome iced cakes as prizes for competitions.

Captain Edwin telegraphed at noon today: — Moderate to strong easterly winds, glass little movement, tides moderate, sea moderate. * '

We warn those <ruilty of this kind of thins that they are liable- to prosecution. The extras are issued for the benefit of the public generally, and should not be interfered with by anyone.
