Chronicle "Haselden Number."

TO THE EDITOR,

Sj rj — I have now fought three elections, and during my elocHoneerin£ experiences I have never done a moan actio3i, or need a questionable or contemptible expedient to gain the support of the electors. Fair fighting, up and above board, is the only method for a straight man or his party. This morning the Chronicle, in publishing a special "Haselden" issuo, flooded with anonymous letters and a loader opinion of one man only) designed to obliterate me, paid me a great compliment. Tho fact that numbers of people have told me that they had free Chronicles this morning sp<?aks eloquently for the tactics of the Rassotfc party. Tha Lnroniole knows full well that during tho last couple of weeks electors are flocking 1 to my support, and it is the feeling of the ground slipping from beneath his foot that has led Mr Bassett and his satellite; the Chronicle to adopt this contemptible course. The Chronicle issuo of December 1, 1905. should go down to posterity as the "Ilaselden number." The electors of Wangair.ii are as kecn-sightod as the Chronicle, and will rightly assess the value of a hit under tho belt. — I am, etc., F. H. HASELDEN.
