AUSTRALIAN NEWS.

MELBOURNE, December 1. Mr Deakin, replying to questions Tn the House in reference to tne New Hebrides, said that it was incontestable that the most excellent relations existed between Britain and France, but he was not aware that relations of the most intimate character would justify the sacrifice of the established right of the Government of Groat Britain, which bad recently been reminded of tho strong views Australia held. No sacrifice of rights by either country should be askt'a. He trusted that the pi-caent relationship would enable such consideration ot tho reciprocal rights of each party that would lead to a just settlement, and our view of a just settlement cannot fail to be of advantage to Australia. As regards the resolution dealing with the New Hebrides previously jiassed by the House, he had received the usual formal acknowledgement from the Imperial authorities, uut nothing further.
