To Control Doctrine.

TO THE EDITOK.

Sir, — As an instance of tho utterly illogical arguments that are being used by certain ministers in this town on the liquor question, your readers will agree that tho following paragraph, appearing in this morning's Chronicle is about as nonsensical and ridiculous as it is possible to conceive: — "At the conclusion of th© Wesleyan service onuSunday evening, tho llev. Mr Bush, of Raetihi, stated that a large quantity of liquor found its way into his district which is a prohibited one, and therefore he hoped No-license would be carried." Could Prohibition humbug and cant go further? The reverend gentleman hopes that Wanganui will carry No-license so that it will bo turned into a sly-grog hell such -as his district is under Prohibition. If the reverend gentleman and those who think like him that "no control" of the liquor traffic 'is preferable to control such a3 we now have, they must tako the men and women of this community to Ijo fit subjects for a mental hospital. A1 any rate, a good many are- beginning to consider that the advocates of "no control" of the liquor traffic appear to be little bettor than wilfully short-sighted, and what they advocate as "no control" is the very thing calculated to defeat the goal they hope" to obtain, viz., temperance, which can only be obtained by moral suasion and not by coercion.— l am. etc., CONTROL. Wanganui, November 28.
