MEMO. FOR THE ELECTORS.

The Electoral Act, 1905, provides that the day of election shall be deemed to be a public holiday after mid-day, and wlier*» polling day falls upon the weekly halfholiday, under the Shops and Offices Act. the weekly half-holiday shall be deemed to refer to the polling day in lieu of the day so appointed^ and it shall not be necessary to observe the Saturday half-holiday in the week in which the polling day falls. In the case of a factory it shall not be necessary to close during working hours, but the occupier of a factory 6hall afford to give his employees a reasonable opportunity of recording his vote, and no deduction shall be made from tkc wages of the employees in respect of the -time occupied in recording his vote, providing such time does not exceed one hour. For any breach on the- part of an occupier of a factory in this respect, he is liable to a fine of .£5 for each employee. Every person is liable to a fine not exceeding .£2O who at any election interferes with any elector, either in the polling booth or on the way thereto, prints or distributes or delivers to any person on the day of the poll, or at any time during the three days immediately preceding the poll, anything being or purporting to be an imitation of any ballot paper to be issued at the poll, and having y thereon the names of the candidates, or any direction how to vote. No Registrar or Returning Officer shall hold any position in connection with any political organisation. Provision is made for seamen to exercise their votes on the local option question. The commercial travellers, shearers, and theatrical elector's right has been abolished and in lieu thereof, an absent voter's permit is issued, enabling the holder to exercise his vote at any booth in the colony. The privilege of obtaining an absent voter's permit is extended to every elector who finds he" will be absent from his electorate on polling day.
