THE COMING ELECTIONS.
Mr W. Jeffries' Views.

Mr W. Jeffries, ex-banker at Temuka, who is announced as a candidate for the Geraldine seat in the Opposition interest, addressed his -first meeting of electors at Temuka last evening, ,and had a large meeting, the Volunteer Hall being filledto and he was accorded an appreciative 5 hearing. He announced himselr as a straight-out .Oppositionist, and advocated the reduction of Customs duties on necessities' of life, giving the option of the freehold to the L.I.P. settlers at the original values, the election of the Upper House on the basis of one representative to every two electorates, the completion of the trunk rails at the rate of jb'soo,ooo a year. He is opposed to a referendum on the Bible in schools, and would remove the disqualification against thrift in regard to old age pensions, wonld repeal the Public Revenues Act, and generally endeavour to secure clean administration. He received a hearty vote of thanks, asking that any further expression of confidence be reserved for the polling booth.
