RAETIHI NOTES.

(From our own correspondent,) August 23. The' weather -has' been very cold lately — a slight fall of snow last Thursday. At last the bridge over the Makakapo is finished and has been passed. I hear there has been some more sheep worrying going on among some of the settlers' flocks.

The bachelors give a ball this week. The Raetihi Old Boys played the town team on Saturday. The town team Avon, the Old Boys played well btit were somewhat out of form. A return match is to be played~shortly.f * c? Things are, very lively up here now. Large numbers of men are starting work on the Waimarino Plains, also towards Waiouru. The Minister of Public Works evidently intends the' railway will be finished in the three years. The cart road to the Mukutote viaduct is to be constructed at once and a, lot of the material for the viaducts and railway will come up the river and be carted up. The Railway League do not seem to have accomplished much and the railway is now being made on the old route.
